When COVID hit, our traditional month-long "road show" for audit training was dead in the water. My challenge was to take an 8-hour, high-stakes technical curriculum and turn it into a virtual experience that actually kept people awake.
By pairing 31 custom-produced videos with a massive, 220-page interactive manual, we didn't just survive the transition to virtual—we created a new organizational standard that was featured in our Training Apex award submission.
The Highlights
The Role: Lead Video & Manual Designer
The Scope: 7 modules, 31 videos, and a 220-page technical "bible."
The Win: Shifted from passive "Road Show" listening to a hybrid model of active, video-driven learning.
The Strategy: The "Guide & Reference" Split
The secret to this project’s success was realizing that no one can absorb 200+ pages of technical data in one sitting. I split the experience into two parts:
The Engagement (Video): I produced 31 green-screen vignettes featuring our Director of Audit Learning. These weren't just "talking heads"—we used animated graphics and case studies to keep the energy high.
The Reference (The Manual): I built a 220-page interactive manual designed to be used after the training. It was built for speed with a streamlined bookmarking system, so auditors could find answers in seconds.
One of 31 custom greenscreen video segments featuring animated graphics and talking head integration, replacing traditional in-person audit training
The Technical Grind
Green Screen Production: I shot and edited the entire video library, integrating custom motion graphics to visualize complex leasing standards.
Information Architecture: Managing a 220-page technical document is a beast. I established a rigorous visual system—consistent iconography, typography, and color-coded modules—to make the data digestible.
Workflow Innovation: I developed a parallel production process, allowing us to build the video assets and the manual simultaneously without version-control nightmares.
The Results
The New Template: This project was so successful it became the official blueprint for how we convert in-person training to virtual formats.
Award-Winning: Recognized as an organizational best practice in our industry-leading Training Apex award win.
High Utility: Feedback showed that while the videos got people through the training, the manual became an essential desk reference for auditors in the field.
The Real Takeaway
The biggest win here was proving that engagement and depth aren't mutually exclusive. You can have "fun" interactive video content while still providing the heavy-duty technical documentation required for high-level audit work. It’s all about putting the right information in the right medium.
